How It Started

Loon Layers was born from a decade-long dream, a vision to capture the laid-back spirit of the Midwest. It’s a brand inspired by mornings at the lake, dusty trail hikes, lively pickleball games, and evenings spent laughing around the fire.

For years, life kept me busy, and this idea stayed just that, an idea. But between my background in design, my experience in e-commerce, and a deep love for the North, I knew it was time to finally bring it to life.

Loon Layers isn’t just a clothing brand. It’s a celebration of the simple pleasures that make life feel full:

The Name That Just Felt Right

The name "Loon Layers" came to life on a classic drive up north. My partner and I were tossing around ideas, and when they said it out loud, it just clicked. It was playful, grounded, and unmistakably Minnesota, honoring our state bird, the layered lifestyle we embrace up here, and the spirit of the brand.

We checked domain availability and social handles, and miraculously, everything was available. That sealed the deal. It was meant to be.

Design with Heart

As a designer, I wanted every piece of Loon Layers to feel like wearable art. I pulled inspiration from old outdoor gear, vintage prints, and the natural beauty of the Midwest. Each design combines bold, nostalgic illustrations with thoughtful typography.

I use tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Procreate to create designs that tell a story. And recently, I brought my love of photography back into the mix, using a Fujifilm X100VI to capture real moments of people wearing Loon Layers, reminding us to live life, not just post about it.

We love making designs personal. Whether it’s swapping in your lake’s name, your pickleball club’s town, or your cabin crew’s signature phrase, we offer custom options that make every piece feel unique and meaningful.

We’re just getting started. Future collections will celebrate more of the Midwest lifestyle, with seasonal and activity specific drops. We plan to partner with local shops and outfitters, offering best-selling styles, seasonal collections, and custom runs featuring hometowns and lake names.
